History

The UCLA Latino Alumni Association was created as a branch of the UCLA Alumni Association in the Outreach and Diversity group and has since become one of the most successful Alumni organizations.

Our mission is to organize Latino alumni and other friends of UCLA for the benefit and advancement of the Latino community, UCLA alumni, students, faculty, and staff.

The ULAA established the UCLA Latino Alumni of the Year Awards Program in 1991. The program enabled the association and university to pay tribute to alumni who have achieved outstanding accomplishments in their personal life and in our community. The program also served as a scholarship fundraising dinner for deserving students attending UCLA. That year a single scholarship of $500 was awarded and the scholarship program was born.

In 1997, the first Annual Golf Tournament and Youth clinic was held to further help raise money to fund scholarships.

After years of continued success with the program and golf tournaments the ULAA Board of Directors established the Scholarship Endowment Fund through the UCLA Foundation, ensuring that our scholarship program would live in perpetuity.

ULAA's program is now one of the largest volunteer alumni associations supporting UCLA students with more than $1 million dollars awarded to date. We are committed to a program that does not discriminate against AB540 (undocumented) students. ULAA's scholarship program is only one of five nationally that will award scholarships to these students.
