President - Erika Martin '05
Erika Martin was born and raised in Long Beach, California. She graduated from UCLA in 2005 with a BA in Political Science and minors in Environmental Studies and Urban Planning. After UCLA she went on to the University of Southern California to two Masters Degrees in Planning and Public Administration. Currently she is a Development Analyst for the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency.
Vice President - Pablo Mejia '01; M.Ed. '06
Pablo Mejia is an AP Economics Teacher at Santee Education Complex. He graduated from UCLA in 2001 with a B.A. in Economics and a minor in Latin American Studies. He later received a Masters in Education (M.Ed.) from UCLA in 2006. Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, he knew the importance of promoting higher education opportunities to youth from underrepresented neighborhoods. As an undergrad, he was a co-founder of the Latino Business Student Association’s Adelante Tutoring and Mentoring Program and was an active volunteer for Raza Grad. After graduating in 2001, he became a UCLA admissions counselor and also served as mentor for LBSA undergraduates.
Secretary - Celeste Velasquez '05
Celeste was born and raised in Compton, California. She graduated with a BS in Applied Mathematics from UCLA in 2005 and is currently a System Integration and Test Engineer for The Boeing Company.
Treasurer – Rene Murguia ‘06
Rene Murguia graduated UCLA in 2006 with a double major in Business Economics and Spanish and a minor in Accounting. While a student at UCLA, he was a tutor and peer counselor at the Academic Advancement Program that allowed him to grow his passion of working with students and teaching. He’s currently into his third year of teaching at Santiago High School, in Garden Grove, and is starting a Masters Program in Education and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential with the ultimate career goal of becoming a Counselor.
Scholarship Chair - Llanet Martìn '04
Llanet Martìn is a proud Angelina, born and raised in the ethnic enclave of Koreatown. She is one of seven children born to Mexican immigrant parents, Maria and Jose. As the first female in her family to graduate college, she understands the importance of never forgetting where you come from and always returning to your community to help foster the potential in each individual. She began her college endeavors at Los Angeles City College and later transferred to UCLA where she majored in Communication Studies and minored in Education. In 2007, she earned her masters degree from Harvard in Education Policy and Management. She currently works for UCLA and is eager to pursue a doctorate in higher education.
University Relations – Leslie Mejia '09
Leslie Mejia is a recent graduate of UCLA where she received a B.A. in Chicana and Chicano Studies with a minor in Labor Workplace Studies. While at UCLA, she immersed herself in research programs through the Academic Advancement Program, worked at the Undergraduate Admissions Office as a Bruin Ambassador and UCLA’s Early Academic Outreach Program. In her involvement with research, the admissions office, and EAOP she discovered her true passion for education and will be pursuing her masters in counseling in the near future. She is excited to be part of the board member this year and most importantly she is happy to contribute and have the chance to be part of the association that dedicates itself to giving back to the UCLA community.
